Dugout Bar Gang Wins Big

The Dugout Gang Wins $230,179 Gopher 5 Prize

JUNE 16, 2010 — Fourteen regular patrons and employees of The Dugout Bar in Mahtomedi each contributed $2 toward the June 9 Gopher 5 drawing because the jackpot was an advertised $460,000.

Scott Wertheiner bought the group’s 28 quick-picks at Freedom Valu Center, 780 Stillwater Road in Mahtomedi. He checked the tickets against the winning numbers on his laptop at the Dugout after the drawing on June 9. After he discovered that the 27th set of numbers matched the winning numbers (4-5-10-32-35), Wertheiner went into the office to verify the $230,179 win, where the ticket was passed around to several of the group members.

Taun Bartholomew called each of the group members to let them know about the win. As the group claimed the prize on June 15, they unanimously agreed to continue to pool their money.
The members of “The Dugout Gang” are: Eric Avelallemant of Forest Lake; Karalee Bartholomew and Taun Bartholomew of Hastings; Michael Russell of Little Canada; Frank Falkenberg, Chandra Grossmann and Scott Wertheiner of Mahtomedi; James Bartholomew, Myrna Lund and Kathleen Reeves of Maplewood; Samantha Grand of Oakdale; and Brian Neuser, Eric Spah and Robert Rush of Willernie.
Two tickets matched the winning Gopher 5 numbers drawn on June 9 to split the $460,358 jackpot. Each ticket was worth $230,179. Information courtesy of Minnesota State Lottery.
